Rather than cater to the same big banks and business interests that caused the global economic crisis, as Michigan’s current government has done, I believe we should reverse the unnecessary corporate tax breaks of recent years and reinvest that money where it is needed, like in the priorities I listed above. However, because so much of Michigan’s government is bought and paid for by big banking and business interests, the ability to implement policies of economic localization that prioritize the people’s needs will only realistically come about with a groundswell of “people-power” movements.
As a public figure, I will call attention to the myriad of uprisings we’ve seen over the last year, like labor strikes, ballot initiatives and the Occupy Wall Street movement. Rather than depending on corrupted elected officials to do the work of the people, citizens are beginning to realize that their direct involvement such movements are necessary to stop the corporate takeover of our lives and livelihoods. Both the Republican and Democratic parties have sold us out to Wall Street, so it is our duty to take back control of our future. Exposing the two-party puppet show, building people power and working to localize our economy is what I will do as your state representative from the Green Party.
